The Tyngsborough Sewer Commission submitted a FY2022 Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request for Future Sewer Phase design to the Offices of Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey. The request was successful, and the Town received $869,000 of Grant funding from the Consolidated Appropriations Act (P.L. 117- 103), which was signed into law on March 15, 2022. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rolled out the funding, and the sewer designs in both the Phase 1 East area as well as portions of the Phase 3/5 areas has been 100% completed . The map below outlines the two areas.
The goal of this work was to design these sewers in the Needs Areas, as identified in the Town's Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan. The completed sewer designs will allow the Commission to coordinate with property owners and better understand project costs and potential sewer betterment costs. Although the sewer design for these areas has been finalized, advancing the project beyond design would include a significant public outreach effort, Town Meeting approval, as well as additional funding. The Sewer Commission is constantly monitoring any further grant opportunities to help offset the construction costs of the proposed sewer line.
