As announced in early November, the Town of Tyngsborough has been working with its Trash & Recycling vendor Republic Services to streamline waste collection and minimize missed pick ups and delays. As a part of this work, we identified a proposal to create efficiencies by switching our bi-weekly recycling routes to a system that collects all recycling on one side of the bridge on the same week. Our current schedule has trucks crossing the bridge to collect recycling on both sides. Under this proposal, all residents would still experience bi-weekly recycling pick up and in some cases the schedule would change for residents. 

This proposal does not impact trash pick up which will continue to occur weekly for all addresses.

On November 15, 2024, the Town opened a public comment period seeking feedback from the Community about this proposed change. The Town has received no negative feedback about the proposal except that any change should be widely communicated. This proposal was also presented to the Select Board and Board of Health and both boards had no concerns about the change.

To that end, the Town will formally implement a new recycling schedule effective January 6, 2025. To see a high-level summary of the change, please scroll the bottom of this post.

2025 Recycling Calendar

The new recycling schedule is as follows:

• West Side (Bordering Nashua, Chelmsford, Dunstable, and Westford): Recycling will be collected on “B Week” starting January 6, 2025.
• East Side (Bordering Dracut, Hudson, and Lowell): Recycling will be collected on “A Week” starting January 13, 2025.

To prevent disruptions, addresses switching from “B Week” to “A Week” will have recycling picked up on both January 6 and January 13 before resuming the bi-weekly schedule.

Republic Services will be mailing a new trash and recycling calendar to all addresses who receive trash and recycling pick up next week to ensure the message is widely distributed. Additionally, the Town will continue to share this update on its website, social media, new digital message board, and in hard copy notices at the Town Hall, Tyngsborough Public Library, and Council on Aging. We will also do one reverse 911 blast in the weeks leading up to the change.
