January 23, 2026 - Tyngsborough – Town Manager Colin Loiselle announced today the preparations the Town is taking ahead of the anticipated large-scale, long-duration winter storm expected to hit our area beginning on Sunday morning and continuing through Monday evening.

Current weather forecasts call for our area to see up to 20 inches of snow between Sunday, January 25, 2026 and Monday, January 26, 2026. The timing of the storm is still in flux, but is largely expected to reach peak storm conditions between 7 PM Sunday and 7 AM on Monday. Travel during this time may be impossible.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will have 40 pieces of equipment out beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through the end of the storm. Residents are advised that this long-duration event will take significant time to clear, and as such travel should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. If you must travel, please leave plenty of time to get to your destination, take it slow, and never crowd the plow. Please do not call 911 to report an unplowed road, direct all plowing questions to the DPW by calling 978-649-2310.

Parking on public ways is strictly prohibited during winter events. Beginning on Saturday evening, the Tyngsborough Police will ticket and tow any vehicle parked on a public way impeding snow removal operations.

The Fire Department will staff all three stations in Town, including Station 2 on Lakeview Ave and Station 3 on Chestnut Road, which will ensure a timely fire response even during the worst of the storm. The Fire Department and Emergency Preparedness Committee will monitor the storm, and should the need to open a warming center or overnight shelter occur, an emergency alert will be broadcast with details via social media, tyngsboroughma.gov, and Reverse911 . Residents are encouraged to charge mobile devices ahead of the storm to ensure they can follow updates. Residents who are able are encouraged to clear hydrants throughout the storm to ensure the Fire Department can quickly access them in the event of an emergency.

The Center for Active Living has cancelled all programming and bus trips on Monday, January 26, 2026. Any resident who is or knows a vulnerable senior is encouraged to contact the front office of the Fire Department so the Department can check on these residents throughout the storm. You can reach the Fire Department through its non-emergency line at 978-649-7671.

Given the projected impact of this storm, the Select Board’s meeting on Monday. January 26, 2026 will take place via Zoom only. Details for the meeting can be found on the Town’s calendar at tyngsboroughma.gov

Finally, Republic Services will not collect trash and recycling on Monday, January 26th. All collection will take place on Tuesday, January 27th. Please do not put your trash or recycling on the curb until Tuesday morning.

Residents can sign up for emergency alerts by visiting www.tyngsboroughma.gov. This emergency alert system will be used to notify residents about the opening of a warming center or shelter, changes in Town Services including closings of Town Offices and Tyngsborough Public Schools, and to share other time sensitive notices.

As always, please report any emergency to 911.
