Special Election - 1st Middlesex State Senate

In October 2025, State Senator Edward Kennedy passed away unexpectedly, leaving a vacancy in the seat he held representing the 1st Middlesex District which includes Tyngsborough. 

On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Massachusetts State Senate scheduled a Special Election to fill the vacancy for March 3, 2026.

The Primary Election will take place on February 3, 2026.

Important Dates:

  • December 30, 2025 at 5PM: Deadline to submit nomination papers
  • January 24, 2026: Last day to register to vote for the February 3, 2026 Primary
  • January 27, 2026: Last day to apply for a mail-in-ballot for the February 3, 2026 Primary
  • February 21, 2026: Last day to register to vote for the general election on March 3, 2026
  • February 24, 2026: Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the March 3, 2026 General Election.

Annual Town Election - Tuesday, May 19, 2026

The Town of Tyngsborough will conduct its annual Town Election on Tuesday, May 2019, 2026. Positions on the following boards & committees will appear on the ballot:

  • Select Board
  • Board of Assessors
  • Board of Health
  • Sewer Commission 
  • Finance Committee
  • Board of Library Trustees
  • Housing Authority 
  • Planning Board
  • School Committee
  • Town Moderator
  • Tree Warden
  • Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High School School Committee

Interested in Running for Office?

Residents who are interested in running for office can obtain nomination papers from the Office of the Town Clerk. The last day to obtain nomination papers is March 26, 2026. All nomination papers must be submitted to the Town Clerk no later than March 31, 2026. You may withdraw nomination papers until April 16, 2026.

How do you vote?

Any registered voter may vote in one of four ways:

  1. In Person on Election Day: You can vote in person at your polling place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 7 AM and 8 PM. Voters at precinct 1 and precinct 2 vote at Tyngsborough Middle School (50 Norris Road) and voters in precinct 3 and precinct 4 vote at Tyngsborough Elementary School (205 Westford Road).   2. By Mail: Any registered voter may request to vote by mail. If you are interested in voting by mail, you can apply to vote by mail here. Applications to vote by mail must be received by Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
  3. Absentee Ballot: If you are unable to vote in person on election day because you will be traveling or otherwise unavailable, you can apply to vote absentee. You can learn more about absentee voting, download an application, and learn more about deadlines by clicking here.
  4. Early Voting: The Town Clerk's Office will provide early voting as required by town bylaw. All early voting will take place at Town Hall (25 Bryant Lane). The early voting schedule is below: Registered voters do not need to apply to early vote or schedule an appointment. Any registered voter may show up to Town Hall during the times listed below and cast their ballot in person.

How do I register to vote?

If you are not registered to vote, you can register to vote in person or online by April 15, 2026To register in person, simply visit the Office of the Town Clerk at 25 Bryant Lane anytime during normal business hours. Please note the clerk's office will be open on Saturday, May 9, 2026 until 5:00 PM for in-person voter registration.
